Story behind the souvenir

Story behind the souvenir

The colors associated with the Camino de Santiago are primarily yellow and blue. Pilgrims on the Camino often wear clothing and accessories in these colors that is why we chose these colors for our illustration.

Yellow is the predominant color and is traditionally associated with the Camino de Santiago. The origin of the yellow color dates back to the Middle Ages when pilgrims wore simple, inexpensive clothing, often made of wool, and dyed it with local materials like saffron or turmeric. Yellow was an affordable and readily available dye, making it a common choice among pilgrims.

Blue, on the other hand, is associated with the Virgin Mary, who is an important figure in Christian pilgrimage traditions. Blue is considered a color of protection and is often worn or displayed as a symbol of faith and devotion.

Today, pilgrims continue the tradition of wearing yellow and blue on the Camino as a way to connect with the historical roots of the pilgrimage and to identify themselves as Camino pilgrims. The colors also create a sense of unity and camaraderie among pilgrims on the journey.
